Cochrane Finland's Activities

Cochrane Finland, the Finnish Cochrane Centre, has resumed operations in spring and summer 2025 after a three-year pause. The centre acts as a regional representative of the Cochrane network in Finland. Its tasks include:

  • Communicating about Cochrane's activities and serving as Cochrane's representative in Finland
  • Maintaining connections with Finnish Cochrane contributors
  • Participating in the activities of the international Cochrane network
  • Supporting authors of Cochrane reviews
  • Providing evidence-based medicine training together with partners
  • Organizing national or regional events together with partners

Cochrane Finland is funded by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim and the FinCCHTA unit of the Northern Ostrobothnia wellbeing area, both of which also participate in the centre's steering group. The centre's part-time director is MD, docent Jorma Komulainen.

The Cochrane collaboration is an international network of researchers who produce, update, and disseminate evidence-based and summarized information on the effectiveness of healthcare methods. In Finland, Cochrane reviews are used to support clinical and health policy decision-making. Authors of treatment recommendations and evaluation reports commonly use Cochrane reviews as source material.

Cochrane Finland is part of the Cochrane collaboration, which operates in over 130 countries.
